Somalia’s Defense Minister Confident in Al-Shabaab Defeat
Mogadishu (SDN)-The transitional federal government of Somalia has vowed to liberate the country from Al-Shabaab and Al-Qaeda in their on-going plan to bring peace to the shaky region.
The TFG’s defense minister Mr. Hussein Arab Isse spoke to journalists today where he took the opportunity to reiterate the government’s decisive actions to eradicate Al-Shabaab and Al-Qaeda insurgency which has undermined peace in the country.
The Minister painted the insurgents as desperate saying Al-Shabaab’s resources and reach are diminishing and the group has resorted to suicide bombings targeting civilians. According to him the administration remains committed to tackling these issues.
He also called on the police force and peacekeeping troops to strengthen security in the city of Mogadishu following the hand over of security to local police by the army which has been deployed to other regions where Al-Shabaab remains active.
The government did not elaborate on how Al-Shabaab will be defeated or the steps they are taking to neutralize the group which continues to target government forces in the city of Mogadishu. The reassurance from the Minister follows high profile bombings targeting TFG officals and mortar attacks on the administrative headquarters of the TFG in Mogadishu by Al-Shabaab.
