Al-Shabaab Mocks TFG, Calls Mahiga “President”
Mogadishu, (SDN) -The head of Al-Shabaab in Banaadir Sheik Mahamed Hassan (Abu Abdirahman) drew attention to statements from the UN’s Ambassador to Somalia Augustine Mahiga who vowed to take steps against anyone who interferes with the Roadmap to peace. Abu Abdirahman mocked the government saying the statements of Mahiga position him as the President of Somalia.
Abu Abdirahman also said leaders of the transitional federal government are merely pawns and do not hold any real power judging by the orders being given to them by external stakeholders.
He continued to say that the changes being implemented by AMISOM have not benefited Somalia in any way and swore to continue fighting the transitional federal government and its allies who he described as invaders.
The statement comes amidst UN concerns over elements they believe are undermining the progress of the Roadmap and the ratification of the constitution. The UN’s envoy and transitional federal government officials have promised to take stern action against anyone who opposes the Roadmap.
