Ethiopian Forces Ready to Fight in Kismaayo

Dhuusamareeb (SDN) -Ethiopian forces have publicized their intentions to take over control of Kismaayo from Al-Shabaab. According to Kornel Cres an official with the army, the Ethiopians are prepared to engage Al-Shabaab in Kismaayo and have called in reinforcements and specialized military equipment to aid their mission.

Cres told reporters in Dhuusamareeb that Al-Shabaab does not have the capacity to withstand an assault by Ethiopian forces. He also said that his government remains committed to defeating the militant group.

This statement comes at a time when Ethiopian forces have been gaining significant ground against Al-Shabaab and are undertaking widespread operations throughout Somalia to eradicate the militant group.

Somalia’s transitional federal government and its allies are under pressure to secure the country as the deadline for the roadmap to peace approaches in August. The new constitution is expected to be ratified by May 15th spurring hopes that stability can be brought to the region after more than two decades of civil war and political upheaval.
