Ethiopian Troops Retaliate By Shooting Somali Civilians

Baladweyne (SDN)-Disturbing reports emerging from the city of Baladweyne in the Hiiraan region of Somalia claim a roadside bomb targeting Ethiopian troops exploded in the morning hours of April 23rd 2012.

Witnesses say the explosion killed two members of the Ethiopian army. Following the incident Ethiopian troops knowingly opened fire on civilians killing three people and bringing the total death toll to five.

Many were left injured including Ethiopian soldiers and civilians, although an exact number has not been confirmed.

The city has been under a curfew since the bombing which has yet to be lifted according to the latest reports out of Baladweyne. The source of the bomb remains unknown although coalition forces including Ethiopia and Kenya have been engaged in warfare with the militant group Al-Shabaab. The actions by Ethiopian forces today may garner support for the militant group and undermine the legitmacy of joint operations by allied forces in Mogadishu.
