Administration Speaks Out About Puntland Bombardment
Garoowe (SDN) -The government of Puntland is speaking out about an aerial assault that took place two days ago on the port town of Gunbah located in Somalia’s eastern region.
The director of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry Abdiwahid Hirsi Joo’aar spoke to journalists today to discuss the mystery surrounding the warplanes. He described the events as disturbing; he was surprised that any military force would consider bombarding a highly populated civilian area in the middle of the night in order to target pirates.
The director believes the warplanes are part of a larger naval battalion docked off the coast of Somalia. The incident may be the work of American, British, Australian, and EU troops who have joined forces in an international military exercise to rid the world of piracy. EU officials in Nairobi denied any knowledge of the events in Puntland.
Heavy artillery was used on the town of Gunbah leaving many civilians injured including fishermen who live near the shore. According to survivors of the attack the warplanes intentionally targeted civilians.
