Tsunami warning in 28 countries after 8.6 magnitude quake strikes Indonesia

The Pacific Warning System has warned that coastal areas of Karachi and Gwadar will be hit by tsunami waves.

28 countries, including Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia, Somalia and Indonesia have been warned by the Pacific Warning System that a tsunami wave will hit their major coastal areas on April 11.

Pakistan’s coastal areas of Gwadar and Karachi are expected to be hit by the tsunami waves which could arrive at 1536Z in Gwadar and at 1644Z in Karachi.

Though actual arrival times are not confirmed, the initial wave might not be the largest.

Arif Mehmood, the Director of Pakistan Meteorological Department says that the height of tides is expected to go high in Pakistan’s aforementioned coastal areas.

Pakistan Disaster Management has already asked fishermen to return from the open sea.

After an 8.7 earthquake hit Indonesia, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned that the tsunami waves could hit Pakistan and neighbouring countries.
