Israelis march in East Jerusalem

Jerusalem June 05, 2024 (QJ)-Israelis waving flags have conducted a controversial annual march through the Muslim areas of Jerusalem’s Old City today.

Many participants waving Israeli flags emerged from Damascus Gate the primary entrance to the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City and marched through the area.

This parade commemorates the anniversary of Israel’s occupation of East Jerusalem from Jordan during the 1967 war.

The march has sparked significant controversy, as Palestinians view it as a provocation intended to undermine their ties to the city, which they hope will one day become the capital of an independent Palestinian state.

The march is predominantly attended by nationalist Jewish groups and has previously led to clashes between Israelis and Palestinians.

In 2021, this march prompted Hamas to fire rockets into Israel, contributing to an 11-day conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza.
