The UN calls for International sanctions against Israel

Aman May 27, 2024 (QJ)-The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, has called for International sanctions against Israel and accountability for its alleged crimes against Palestinians.

In her repeated calls, Albanese emphasized the need for an “immediate ceasefire, the end of Israel’s illegal occupation of Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, and the presence of protection to ensure peace and stability in the region.”

She pointed out that Israel has once again denied her access to the occupied Palestinian territories, compiling reports on the dire conditions of Palestinians to be sourced from neighboring countries.

Albanese noted that the situation in Gaza is worse than previously assessed, with Israel having destroyed Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure. This destruction continued even after January 26, 2024, when the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued a ruling ordering Israel to prevent the genocide in Gaza.

She highlighted that the humanitarian measures applied so far, including air and sea access points, are merely superficial solutions to what is urgently and legally required.
