Former Federal Presidents accuse the incumbent of perusing self-interest

Mogadishu March 29, 2024 (QJ) -The former Presidents of Somalia, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo have spoken out against the planned upcoming parliamentary meeting to approve the amended Constitution by the Members of Parliament.

In a statement released by the former heads of state, they expressed that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lacks the willingness to foster unity and national cohesion among the Somali people, and instead, he solely pursues self-interest.

Additionally, Farmaajo and Sheikh Sharif noted with concern that the current President is seemingly intent on undermining the efforts and consensus reached in the constitutional review process.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been accused of seeking to undermine the powers of the Parliament and the leadership of both houses, to avoid being held accountable.
