South Africa complaints to ICJ about Israeli actions in Gaza

Johannesburg March 07, 2024 (QJ) -On Wednesday, South Africa submitted an urgent request to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeking immediate and substantial measures regarding Israel, as indicated by documents provided to the ICJ.

The urgent submission made on Wednesday by South Africa asserts that it is “imperative for it to approach the Court in light of new realities and changes in the situation in Gaza – particularly the dire humanitarian situation.”

The statement also calls on the ICJ to demonstrate decisive actions or to alter its usual approach in light of the urgent situation.

South Africa had previously approached the ICJ in January following Israel’s declaration that it would continue its attacks on Palestinians in Gaza. The ICJ then announced that it would consider taking urgent measures against Israel concerning its military operations in Gaza.

This announcement follows a report stating that at least 30,717 people were killed in the recent clashes in Gaza, with more than 72,000 injured since October 7th.
