Israel suspends ceasefire talks with Hamas

Cairo March 03, 2024 (QJ)  -An Israeli official told the media today that Israel is not sending a delegation to Cairo to participate in talks on a cease-fire agreement and the release of Israeli hostages.

The official said that Hamas did not respond to two demands made by Israel, namely: a list of hostages, indicating the living and the dead; and confirming the number of Palestinian prisoners being released from Israeli prisons in exchange for hostages.

The decision not to send an Israeli delegation was made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after he received a message that Hamas did not respond to those requirements, the Israeli official said.

A senior Hamas official did not immediately respond to a question about whether the group had responded to Israel’s demands.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech on Thursday outlining the conditions.

Israel’s decision that no delegation will go to Cairo comes a day after a senior US administration official told reporters that Israel had “accepted in principle” the ceasefire proposal. – a six-week suspension of hostilities.

A delegation from Hamas arrived in Cairo early Sunday, according to a senior Hamas source.
