Israeli forces kill 140 in Gaza
Gaza March 01, 2024 (QJ) -Around 140 Palestinians were killed in the city of Gaza after Israeli forces launched airstrikes, as these people attempted to get food from the humanitarian aid convoy in the besieged Gaza Strip.
President Joe Biden of the United States stated that American officials are monitoring the “conflicting reports” emerging from the incident, as the attack unfolded.
A spokesperson for the White House, Olivia Dalton, described the casualties as “tragic” and expressed significant concern.
Health officials in Gaza reported that Israeli forces attacked a location where many people reside, in the al-Nabusi area. Subsequently, reports emerged that Israeli forces targeted trucks carrying food aid, causing casualties among civilians.
Israeli forces claimed they targeted militants with the airstrikes, denying accusations that civilians were among those hit.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack on a food distribution center in Gaza.
Turkey joined Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan in condemning the Israeli military’s targeting of Palestinian civilians seeking assistance, with its foreign ministry referring to the incident as “another crime added to Israel’s record of aggression.”
Amnesty International announced it would investigate Israel’s deadliest attacks on civilians seeking assistance.
The UK-based human rights group called for an “urgent investigation” into the incident, which resulted in the deaths of at least 140 Palestinians.
The Gaza Health Ministry stated that more than 140 people were killed and at least 700 others injured. This brings the death toll in Gaza to over 30,000 since the start of Israel’s Hamas-led offensive over five months ago.
