ATMIS joins the fight against Al Shabaab in Middle Shabelle
Mahaday October 01, 2023 (QJ) -News from Middle Shabelle region indicates that African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) forces stationed there have recently aided the SNA forces in Cali Fooldheere, located on the outskirts of Mahaday district, where there has been a prolonged presence of Al-Shabaab militants.
The AMTIS troops are said to have initiated military operations in the area, targeting members of Al-Shabaab who dug trenches in the area.
This operation primarily focuses on the Shabelle River basin, particularly the areas between Ciid-ciidka and Cali Fooldheere, both of which are part of the Middle Shabelle region.
The intervention by AMTIS and the ongoing conflict have caused considerable instability in the region, as Al-Shabaab has fought fiercely to maintain its control.
The area in question, which was previously inaccessible and under the influence of Al-Shabaab, has now become the center of clashes between the group and ATMIS forces for several days.
The aim is to eliminate these members of Al-Shabaab and to restore stability to the region, which has long been under the influence of the extremist group.
The situation remains fluid, and there has been no official statement from ATMIS, the government, or Hirshabelle authorities regarding these developments.
Middle Shabelle has been one of the areas where Al-Shabaab has been active, and the recent military operations by ATMIS represent an attempt to push the group out of the region, which has strategic significance.
