SSC and Somaliland forces clash in Lasanod
Lasanod Feb 06, 2023 (QJ) – A clash between the Somaliland and SSC forces in Laascaanood, the capital of Sool region, has resulted in deaths and injuries.
The conflict took place in the eastern part of Laascaanood when Somaliland forces attempted to enter the city, but was met with resistance from local militias.
The fight reportedly lasted for hours and sporadic gunfire can still be heard in parts of the city. The confrontation has caused various casualties, with 13 confirmed deaths and 40 people injured so far.
Most of the injuries are reported to be among civilians who were hit by bullets in the market, according to the director of Laascaanood Hospital.
The situation remains tense and troop movements are still being felt in Laascaanood and its surroundings.
The conflict came as SSC elders and leaders today declared their loyalty to the federal government of Somalia and their support for unity.
