BREAKING NEWS: President Hassan names Hamza Abdi Barre as Somalia’s new prime minister
MOGADISHU (QJ) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed Hamza Abdi Barre as the country’s new prime minister, who will soon form a new cabinet.
The president said Hamza was a knowledgeable and capable man for the position and called on the Somali parliament to approve the prime minister.
The appointee is a former secretary general of the UPD party led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and also served as chairman of the Jubaland Electoral Commission, during the re-election of President Ahmed Madobe.
The President wished the new Prime Minister well in his new role.
The country’s new prime minister, a Jubaland politician, is also close to Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe, and was the first member of parliament elected in Jubaland, on December 28, 2021.
The 21st Prime Minister of the Somali Republic is the first non-diaspora person to be appointed to this position.
