THE EXISTING SOCIAL PROBLEMS IN SOMALILAND
Hargeisa- Though Somaliland is a new nation recovering from the civil wars which destroyed the basic infrastructures such as education institutions , justice centers ,as well as police and security centers during civil wars, the people in Somaliland took up the challenge to rebuild their country and restore the country’s peace, law and order, never the less although Somaliland did many achievement in each aspect of development hence there is lots obstacles which are problem the progress of a country ,these my include 1,tribalism 2,khat and 3, unemployment
TRIBALISM
Tribalism is one of the social problems existing in Somaliland, its a problem which is spread throughout the society, whether adults or young and in my personal suggestion I hope, that if tribalism is eradicated many problems will disappear.
Institutional tribalism is the worst kind and Somaliland has it bad. You constantly hear the woes of the public and the opposition parties, yet the government seems to ignore all the tell tell signs of society on the brink of eruption.
KHAT
Khat causes a cascading problems for Somalis in general but in Somaliland particularly, due to the proximity of the Khat plantations in Ethiopia and the crippling joblessness Somaliland masses are at the mercy of the plant.
It’s a known fact that Khat use is at the heart of the societal ills of Somaliland, but more so then any other effect, economically is where the devastating effect is felt.
A nation not recognized can not and should not exchange their hard earned capital for a commodity in which it’s destruction is encapsulated.
Khat is the biggest problem in Somaliland society because many people particularly men have the habit of
chewing khat, this bad habit resulted from many years of social problems which also caused social development problems because many young people stopped going to school in order to chewing khat, also many families were destroyed when men failed the responsibility of their families, in my personal opinion a great progress will appear soon if khat will be eliminated
UNEMPLOYMENT
Unemployment is another one of the social problems which exist in Somaliland, The lack of employment opportunities is why lots of graduates attempt to migrate to the West and die. The Somaliland government failed to create employment, unemployment is not a problem only of those are educated but it affects people from all walks of life, both men and women, educated and non educated.
