Police reservist injured in fight with Somali militia

Mandera, Kenya: A Kenya Police Reservist was shot and injured in the arm after a fierce fire exchange with suspected Somali militia in Korome Location of Mandera East Sub County, Mandera County. Confirming the incident, the Mandera County Police Commander (CPC), Noah Mwivanda said the militia ambushed the KPR as they were on their way back home over the weekend.

“It was at around 8pm when the KPR officers were being taken home when they were attacked,” says Mwivanda.

Armed with AK-47

He said the reservists were in a vehicle when they were attacked.

The CPC said initial reports showed that the militia came in Kenya the previous evening posing as herders. “Children who were at the ‘no man’s land’ looking after goats told us the men crossed into Kenya together with their goats in the evening making it difficult for our officers to identify them at the road barriers,” says Mwivanda.

He said the militias were armed with an AK-47 rifle.
