SOMALIA NEEDS NATIONAL UNITY
Somali people are considered themselves one people, one tribe and homogeneous. They speak the same language, practice one religion and share the same culture and customs. All these components can be advantages and opportunities for them to make their country united and strong.
Somalia has all essential elements which are necessary to make their nation united and success. Although the unfortunate civil-war broke out in Somalia and devastated the country but normalcy is coming back to Somalia. The country is recovering from the destructions and anarchy and Somali nation will regain its position and it will stand on its feet again.
For the unity and prosperity, the government and the people should work hard together and stand together to improve security of the country and to restore peace and stability in the Republic of Somalia.
Following are the tips that we can have greater national unity:
- By acting on the principles of our religion.
- By adopting a common national language and culture.
- By avoiding behavior of clannish
- By putting national interest in the first priority
- By having real democracy
- By having justice and equality in the society as much as possible.
- By practicing nationalism and sense of brotherhood
The country has been going through unrest and chaos for the last 24 years. We should join our hands to solve the problems which the nation has been facing half a century.
Somalia is a nation and is not a state. Some people use state and nation as interchangeable words. In reality however, they are not synonymous. The meaning of the term nation is wider (than) that of the state. There can be no nation if the people are not bound together by a sentiment of oneness which maybe the result of common racial, descent, religion language or another such factor. But that is not always true in the case of the population of a state. For Example Austria, Hungry was one state before the first Great War though; her people didn’t possess a sense of national. Thus, the term state is distinct from the term nation.
We should try to have greater national unity in some such ways:
- Firstly, we should be true Muslims in matters of worshipping Allah and in the performance of our social duties.
- Secondly, we should give all the regions equal chances of growth and development.
- Thirdly, the regional or provincial governments should have proper powers to solve their problems so as the people feel satisfaction with the solution of those problems at the provincial levels.
- Fourthly, we should have justice and equality all over the country. The people should feel that nobody can do injustice to other, rich or powerful be maybe. They must feel that they all have equal chances of progress. If they are able and hardworking, they should be able to make quick progress.
- Lastly, the government and the people should do whatever they can for the national unity. The representatives of the people should have discussions with the government about their problems and ways of promoting unity.
