Who is Abdulrazak Sheikh Ahmed? Terrorist?

Nairobi, Sep 28, 2013 (SDN) -Abdulrazak Sheikh Ahmed is a British citizen of Somali origin; he was arrested in Nairobi in connection with the deadly terror attack in Westgate Shopping Mall a week ago. Al-Shabab claimed the responsibility of the attack that killed at least 60 people dead and 200 others injured. During the attack, there was a speculation that some of the terrorist switched their clothes with those of their hostages and slipped out of the Mall.

Immediately, Kenya’s interior ministry ordered immigration officers and police to tighten the security and ensure no criminal escapes out.

Ahmed attracted the attention of passport officers in Jomo Kenyatta Airport on his way to board Turkish airline flight to Turkey and then London.

Detectives say he had bandage on his face, wearing dark glasses and acting suspiciously.

Later, Anti-terror Unit of Kenya Police detained him to question his involvement in the attack.

The reason of his trip to Kenya

Abdulrazak Sheikh Ahmed who is a 35-years old come in to Kenya on 10th of June this year as a tourist from UK, according to Citizen Tv of Kenya, and he rented exclusive apartment in Westlands, a working distance from Westgate Shopping Mall.

Police believe that he is one of the masterminds of the Westgate attack, but his family says he come in Kenya to see his sick mother.

Abdulrazak’s mother is in Nairobi hospital where she is having a cancer treatment.

His family who we tried to question about his situation refused to comment but sources say he was not in favor of al-Shabab and the terror activities.

Somali Current understands that Ahmed is Quran teacher at London and the people close to him says he practices Sufism – an Islamic mysticism.

 How is his condition?

Abdulrazak’s family is confident that he is innocent and will be released as soon as possible, according to the Somali Current sources.

A Foreign Office spokesman said earlier this week the British government is aware of his arrest and providing consular assistance.
