Somaliland President receives Dutch ambassador to Somaliland and Somalia
Hargeisa, Aug 22, 2013 (SDN) – Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed Silanyo today received the Dutch ambassador to Somaliland and Somalia Joost Reintjes in the presidential palace. Netherlands ambassador to Somalia Mr. Joost Reintjes said that the government of Netherlands is eager to reestablish relations with the government of Somaliland after an absence of more than 22 years held lengthy discussions in which they explored ways to enhance future bilateral relation between the Somaliland and the Neatherlands
The Visiting Envoy said, “I and President Silanyo have discussed with political and development cooperation as well as stimulating future investment by Dutch companies in Somaliland ,adding this won’t be easy but still it’s possible,”.
“The government of the Netherlands to allocated Somaliland students with the opportunity to study in the Netherlands by applying for Scholarships, although the process may be challenging considering the competition for the scholarship but nevertheless they’re accessible for Somalilanders”, stated the Dutch ambassador.
Ambassador Joost Reintjes said, “Somaliland and the Netherlands have much to learn from each other citing that the Somaliland community living in the Netherlands is made up of thousands of persons and that we are committed to further improving our bilateral relations with the both the people and government of Somaliland.
The Netherlands supports several specific projects in Somaliland for example building the parliamentary building of Somaliland, the House of Elders, enacted by AWEPA.
Therefore, the Netherlands supports efforts by the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN) and non-governmental organizations in their aim to enhance the governmental structures and the rule of law; improve the livelihoods of people; and make them resilient to address future droughts.
