President Silanyo Lifts Suspensions on Hubaal Newspaper
Hargeisa, Aug 18, 2013 (SDN) —Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud “Silanyo” has lifted the suspension of Hubaal newspaper and its weekly English sister publication of the Independent. The newspaper was suspended after it ran a front page article on 11 June 2013 quoting a US based strategic analyst report saying President Silanyo ”President Silanyo, Beset by Chronic Diabetes and Dementia, Relies Increasingly On Minister Hersi Ali Who Is Essentially an Ally of Al-Qaeda-Linked Al-Shabab Militants“.
As the director of HCTV Mohamed Abdi Illig who was a member of the medaition journalists wrote his Facebook page had informed that the newspaper would resume publishing by August 19 and president Silanyo pardoned the manager and the chief editor of the newspaper Mohamed Ahmed Jama “Caloolay” and Hassan Hussein Abdilahi “Keefkeef” after the regional court in Hargeisa sentenced them a prison sentences of one and two years
Publication of the newspaper and its weekly English sister publication of the Independent halted indefinitely in June, promoting an outcry among journalists who are enjoying freedom to publish.
