Himilo Party rejects federal and local term extentions

Mogadishu Feb 20, 2023 (QJ) – Himilo Party, led by the former president of Somalia Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, has opposed the plan to extend the tenure of the Federal and Local Government of Somalia.

A statement issued by the Himilo Party stated that it is unfortunate that the Federal and the regional governments of the country are ignoring the provisions of the Constitution that gave them the mandate to lead the society.

The statement by the Himilo Party called on the leaders of the Somali government to respect the law and avoid anything that could lead to further confusion and political turmoil.

This news comes at a time when in the past few days there have been reports of a proposal at the Somali federal parliament to increase the Somali government’s term in office.
