Water Crisis in Buuhoodle

Buuhoodle (SDN)-A severe shortage of water has been reported in the city of Buuhoodle located in the region of Ceyn.

The water shortage in that city has had far reaching consequences for citizens who say they are in desperate need of borehole construction. The city has recently been the centre of fierce fighting between the armed forces of Somaliland and fighters aligned with the Khaatumo State movement. The fighting has caused widespread collateral damage.

A resident of the town spoke to SDN’s affiliate Qurbejoob.com via telephone to describe the situation on the ground. He stated that the current conditions have severely impacted the people and their livelihoods. He continued to say that the situation will deteriorate rapidly if swift action is not taken.

The Minster of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of the state of Puntland Eng. Maxamed Faarax Aadan who has recently been seen in the area of Buuhoodle has said that the living conditions in the area are poor due to the lack of water in the region, specifically in Buuhoodle.  He also reiterated that action must be taken quickly.

The city of Buuhoodle has been embroiled in a battle between the army of Somaliland and forces loyal to the recently established Khaatumo State authority. Details of exactly what will be done to address the situation in Buuhoodle remain to be seen.
