United States worried about “greater war” between Israel and Hezbollah

Beirut April 18, 2024(QJ) -The United States is working to prevent a “greater war” between Israel and Hezbollah, a White House envoy said amid escalating fears of a significant conflict between the two sides.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to Lebanon, Amos Hochstein stated that the U.S. is urgently trying to de-escalate the situation, which has been deteriorating since the October outbreak of the Gaza war.
For the past eight months, Hezbollah and Israel have been regularly exchanging fire across the Israel-Lebanon border. Last week, the Lebanese group launched hundreds of rockets and drones at Israeli military positions following the killing of one of its commanders.
The U.S. envoy traveled to Beirut after meetings in Israel on Monday, warning Israeli officials that continued clashes between Israel and Hezbollah could lead to “a large-scale Iranian attack.”
Hezbollah has declared that it will not cease its attacks on northern Israel unless a ceasefire is established in the Gaza Strip.
