UN tells arms manufacturers to cease transfers of military equipment

NY June 20, 2024(QJ)-A team of experts from the United Nations has warned companies that produce weapons and ammunition against participating in the transfer of arms to Israel, stating that doing so could implicate them in human rights violations and breaches of international law.

The group of 30 experts, which includes several special rapporteurs from the United Nations, asserted that arms manufacturers supplying Israel must cease their transfers of military equipment “even if carried out under existing export licenses.”

“These companies, by sending weapons, components, parts, and ammunition to Israeli forces, risk becoming complicit in serious human rights violations and breaches of international humanitarian law,” the experts stated in a press release.

There has been no response from Israel, which has frequently denied committing violations during its operations in Gaza.
