U.S. Vetoes UN Gaza Ceasefire Resolution
NY December 09, 2023 (QJ) -The United States government rejected a draft resolution yesterday at the United Nations Security Council, which called for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian truce in Gaza.
The draft resolution, supported by 13 out of 15 members of the Security Council, was rejected by the United States, who exercised their veto power. The United Kingdom abstained from the vote.
The US representative to the United Nations, Robert Wood, stated that they will not support an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, and he emphasized that they will not heed calls for a halt to the bombing campaign.
The US government has been providing strong financial and diplomatic support to Israel while facing widespread international criticism for not doing more to stop the violence and protect Palestinian civilians.
