Turkey and 52 others demand a UN arms embargo on Israel
Djibouti (QJ)-The Turkish Foreign Minister announced on Sunday that they had submitted a letter to the United Nations signed by 52 countries and two organizations, calling for a halt to arms supplies to Israel.
“We submitted this letter with 54 signatories to the United Nations on November 1,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a press conference in Djibouti, where he was attending the Turkey-Africa Cooperation summit.
Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Algeria, China, Iran, and Russia were among the signatories. The Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation also signed the document.
Last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the United Nations to impose an arms embargo on Israel.
Israel’s two main arms suppliers, the United States and Germany, have resisted calls for an embargo on Israel, although each has been accused of not halting weapons to Israel during the ongoing conflict.
