The UN and the EU to help rebuild Gaza
Gaza (QJ) – With support from the Palestinian Authority (PA), Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, the UN Development Program (UNDP), and the International Reconstruction Organization for Palestine have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to undertake operations in Gaza.
The agreement, signed at the Prime Minister’s office in Ramallah, located in the occupied West Bank, is valued at $80 million for its first phase.
According to the Wafa news agency, this intervention is the first of its kind since the Gaza ceasefire. The goal is to mitigate destruction, remove debris from critical areas, address unexploded ordinances, and establish several temporary shelters to provide essential services.
Prime Minister Mustafa stated that the MoU will “enhance the government’s efforts to work on-site to respond to urgent needs” and extend aid to Palestinians living under siege.
He further explained that the Palestinian government has prepared a six-month program to address the immediate situation, a three-year plan for early economic recovery and initial reconstruction, followed by a full reconstruction plan spanning more than ten years. This comprehensive program is coordinated with the World Bank, the European Union, and the United Nations.
