TFG Seeks Unification With Somaliland
Mogadishu (SDN)-The Prime Minister of Somalia’s Transitional Federal government told the BBC today that Somalia is engaging in bilateral talks with Somaliland regarding the unification of the two countries.
Prime Minister Gaas stated that a committee of ministers will be formed to sit down with Somaliland’s representatives. The committee will be announced soon.
The location of the meeting has not been chosen according to the PM and is one of the items that are still under discussion.
Sources say that informal talks are currently taking place in Somaliland with members of the TFG who are in Hargeysa for that purpose.
This is the first time that a high ranking official of the Transitional Federal Government has openly stated their intentions and desire to formally discuss unification with Somaliland.
The President of Somaliland remains silent on the issue and has not shed light on the existence or nature of these talks. His office has not confirmed nor denied reports of the plans mentioned by PM Gaas.
