Somalis Posing As Kenya’s National Team Players Detained in Comoros Islands

Comoros police have arrested three people of Somali origin claiming to be members of the Kenya’s national team Harambee Stars who are in the Island for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match,the Standard media reported.

Sources in Moroni, the Island’s capital, said the three people were arrested after they landed at the country’s international airport. They claimed they were part of the team. Comoran Foreign Affairs Minister Said Hassan El-Anrif said the three men had fake Kenyan passports.

“They are currently in custody as we continue with investigations,” he said when he paid a courtesy call on the players and officials at the team hotel. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chief Executive Officer Michael Esakwa said he they were grateful for the increased security. “We were not aware of the incident but have noticed an increase in our security which is good. We are grateful for all the precautions being taken to guard the team,” he said.
