Somaliland’s House of Representatives Passes Statistics Bill
Hargeisa May 12, 2013 (SDN) – Somaliland’s House of Representatives has unanimously passed a bill titled ‘Statistics Bill, 2013’ to plug the legal vacuum relating to various kinds of statistics in the country. The bill went through second reading today after the house of elders made few amendments to the bill. In the objective of the Bill, it was stated that reliable statistics is indispensable for planned development. Somaliland’s ministry of planning is responsible for collecting and processing various kinds of statistics and for their publication. Forty six MP’s have attended the session chaired deputy chairman Bashe Mohamed Farah and once the voting commenced, Thirty nine MP’s have voted in favor of passing the bill while six MP’s refrained casting their vote, and the chairman didn’t cast his vote since majority of MP’s endorsed the bill.
All in all, the objective also said that all government organizations will have to use the planning ministry statistics as mandatory.
