Somaliland:13 years Genius boy invents toys with his bare hands
Gulaid Adam Mohamed is 13 year old orphan boy. He lives far northern town, Buhodle, Somaliland. He grown up with talent and creativeness, without any help he invented and made his bare hand a baby toys and room cooler with light lamb.
It was recently when his toys were exhibited his Primary school in Buhodle. He is grade 3 and his family is very poor. His father died when Gulaid was a child, after that his mother took the responsibility of her children.
“These toys are made plastics and I connected with a dynamo. I can make any kind of cars and planes for these plastics. I take a Jerrican then I slash with blade as a design of a car or plane,” said talented boy.
13 Year old boy living the life below the poverty line show the image of success and braveness. “I make toys with in four days, after that I connect dynamo on the first two tyres. I learn from the electric men that the electric circuit contain positive and negative charges that is the why I applied my toys to make move by connecting batteries.”
The mother of the boy, Mariam Hassan Mohamed stated that she saw the talent of her son in his early years. “I was locked him in the home then I look for something to eat, before I go to look for something to eat I give him garbage things to play and made him busy, but he made a beautiful toys. We moved rural areas, when we move we took his toys on he-camels at that he was 6 years old,” said Mother Hassan.
When Guliad was 8 years old his mother wounded civil war in Buhodle. She injured on the arm during the exchange of gun fire, after that her family faced a difficulty condition
“I wounded a civil war in Buhodle. When my situation gets worsened and I became weak, my son bought his toys with other children. He sold each toy for 6 Thousand Somali shillings (nearly $1) to buy our daily food. At that time he was below 10 years. He advanced his toys and made them some car noise,” said Mariam Hassan.
Guliad sophisticated the toys he invented with his bare hands then he gets more benefits and he sell each toys between $0.5 and $1.
His primary teaches admired his creativity and divine gift. They arranged a launch to exhibit his inventions.
Mrs. Faadumo Abdilahi Haji is one of Gulaid’s teachers and she surprised his genius invention. “He brought us his toys. I asked; did you make this little toy car? After few minutes I witnessed his invention, because he made a new toy car. I admired his talent. He made advancement and invented a toy plane and different types of toy cars.”
This genius boy made his school a room cooler (air-condition) with a light bulb.
“It is a room cooler with a lamb. When you are in dark home you can feel its light. It works with electric dynamo. I have a great ambition,” said Gulaid.
The genius boy likes to achieve his dreams, but his family’s low income doesn’t allow him to go forward.
“My children are orphans. Their father died and I have 3 children,” said Mariam, who feeds their children with a lahooh (Somali traditional food) which she sells in front of her house and their neighbors bought it.
