SOMALILAND: University of Hargeisa Students Protest against Tuition Fee Hike

Hargeisa, Sep 22, 2013 (SDN)  -University of Hargeisa students held a protest against the hike of tuition fees in the university on today. The students, including sophomore and students of more senior grades, protested in front of the campus of University of Hargeisa setting fire to tires outside the entrance. Somaliland’s minister of education Samsam Abdi Adam and police commissioner Brigadier Abdilahi Fadal Iman quickly arrived the scene and held talks with the students in the university main hall.

The students informed the minister that they were fighting tuition fees and would do everything possible for cancellation of the university’s decision. Also Education minister assured the students that she will solve the problem as soon as possible. According to students, it is not “understandable” that tuition fees are being raised to improve the quality of education.
