Somaliland Traditional leaders spokesman affirms in attending the Turkish mediated talks
Hargeisa – The spokesman for Somaliland traditional chiefs Sultan Yusuf Muhumed Hirey has said that he welcomes the new development about tribal elders attending in Somalia/Somaliland talks which the Turkish government is hosting.
The Turkish government intends to try the traditional elders after politicians from both countries failed to reach a major political agreement which is aimed to to decide the future ties of the two enclaves.
Somaliland, a former British Protectrate which seceded from Somalia in 1991 and is seeking recognition from the int’l comunity.
In an interview with Somali television channel Universal Sultan Yusuf said that clan elders are best suited to particpate the dialogue. “The time is right for us to take part these talks as we are the leaders of the people.” Sultan Yusuf said.
“We see ourselves capable of indulging in the talks these politicians think that they are the only ones who can lead the nation in the talks with Somalia. All people in the country have equal platform to respresent the country and none is above the other.” The sultan reiterated.
