Somaliland: So Corrupt We Are

By: Aden Deeq

Help comes in the form of teaching, showing and leading by example. The people running the country misuse the money just as they have done with their existing funds that our country often ignores its own poor. Worse still, the government is corrupted and do not spend enough money in education to give people opportunities to break out of the poverty cycle. No one knows the troubles that lie ahead.

“United we stood, divided we falling “Ask yourselves, who is our biggest enemy?  Take – take – take is our biggest enemy! Greed is the only thing that has held us back Is this right?  Many people are living in slums, and their conditions are unbearable, whether there is a lack of food, water, or shelter.  We have got to do something about it because I feel as though it is inhumane that we the people are losing site of the real issues. I am concerned with continuing corruption at all levels of governments, Local and international NGOs, said to be used as scapegoats. But is it NGOs in particular or public institutions in general?  Actually NGOs are among most corrupt institutions in Somaliland causing our reputation been tarnished, hence Donors have been ramping up aid to our fragile raising Silaanyo government falling into corrupt hands. How can you measure the level of corruption in a country? Corruption generally comprises illegal activities, which are deliberately hidden and only come to light through scandals, investigations or prosecutions just like the case of Hargeisa Governor”

And women selling stolen food aid at a market in Hargeisa.

The abuse of public office for private gain is done in secret, under the table behind closed doors.
