Somaliland Responds to Somalia’s Reunification Agenda

Hargeisa (SDN)-The government of Somaliland recently responded to statements made by the transitional federal government of Somalia regarding their intention to pursue unification of the two states.

Ali Yusuf the second deputy chairman of Somaliland’s parliament spoke to journalists today saying the current talks between Somaliland and Somalia is meant to promote positive relations between the two countries and is in no way a discussion of unificiation.

“Somalia’s officials have said that these talks will lead to the reunification of the two states, and we must reiterate that Somaliland remains independent. It is clear that our points of view differ and Somaliland’s independence is not in question, rather it is the choice of the Somaliland voters”

“Somaliland is ready for talks and there is no agenda to undermine Somaliland’s independence” said the second deputy chairman Ali Yusuf Ahmed who held a press conference in the capital city of Hargeisa today.
