Somaliland: President Silanyo Announces Plan to Boost up Educational Services to End Human Trafficking

Hargeisa, Sep 05, 2013 (SDN) — Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo has said the his government will heighten educational services provided by the government as a means to end human trafficking. Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, the president of Somaliland on Wednesday announced a large plan to assist local schools and families to scale up the school enrollment which he said  will help the local people to turn into education.

Somaliland  is one the largest region affected by human trafficking which led to unprecedented number of youth moving from their homeland region in order to gain a better life from the overseas.

Unemployment, lacking better social services and poverty are said to be the most factors pushing youth in Somaliland to migrate from their homes and seek jobs and better life in Europe, Africa or Asia each year.  But hundreds  are killed or went missing in unsafe journey on the Mediterranean sea.

Prsident Silanyo said if the youth were educated they will not be vulnerable to human trafficking because they will identify the risks they have to take during the long journey in the world oceans.

He said a better thinking person won’t take his life to death, as many of Somaliland youth went already.
