Somaliland: Kulmiye Ruling Party National Conference Kicks off in Hargeisa

HARGEISA-The governing Somaliland’s Kulmiye Party begins a three-day National Conference on Tuesday in Hargeisa which will choose presidential candidate and running mate.

Some 360 delegates are attending, representing Somaliland’s ethnic community in all regions of the country.

373 central council members have registered whereby 8 are in absentia.

The current chairman, Musa Bihi has suggested that the former head of central council should be reelected once again.

338 members of the council have voted unanimously the head of the central council.

19 members have rejected against the former head of the central council to be reinstated.

18 members have abstained.

Hon. Jama Shabeel has been elected as the new chairman of the central council.

Somaliland President His Excellency Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud Silanyo is attending the conference and has announced that he has officially relinquished to run for presidential candidate in 2017 presidential and parliamentry elections.

The president siad in speech that he is the president of the republic and that the trust on my people did not so far diminnished.

He stated that he was entitled to stand for reelection and added that he wants to set a good example for the generations to come and former presidents who were known for hanging on to power.

the current governing party chairman, Musa Bihi Abdi is vying for the presidential candidate.

Incumbent Vice president Abdirahman Saylici is constesting for the vice presidency while he is expected to face a tough battle with the Health Minister, Suleiman Isse Ahmed alias “Haglatosiye”.
