Somaliland: Berbera residents took to streets to voice their anger over the lease of BOT
BERBERA– Reports coming from the port town of Berbera confirm that local residents have staged peacful protests today.
They were strongly against the lease of Berbera Oil Terminal which is now in the hands of private investors.
Security forces have dispersed the crowd by opening fire into the air.
Protesters have burned old tyres to the main roads leading to the heart of the town.
No casualties are reported are far as the situation in Berbera is concerned.
Tensions are running high in Sahil region and mainly the provincial town of Berbera.
It was yesterday when unknown gunmen sprayed bullets on fuel tanker.
Reports confirmed that young men who were not recognized blocked the road that links Berbera to Sheikh.
Five men who were accused of instigating the unrest and fueling the fire in the region were sentenced to one month jail by regional security committee.
