Somaliland: A renowned poet who supports Paris attack with a poem put behind bars

HARGEISA — The police of the breakaway state of Somaliland has on Saturday arrested poet Abdiwahid Gamadiid who is well known for supporting the Islamist groups after he come up with a new motivating poem in which he was supporting the attack in Paris last month.

Poet Gamadiid has previously sang a poem in which he was supporting the  attack in Wastegate mall in the Kenyan capital Nairobi in late 2013, but was later released from jail in February 2014 and left Somaliland to Puntland.

But on arrival in Puntland the authority of Puntland did not offer him immunity, but arrested him in the coastal town of Bosasso, for his support of the attack in Wastage mall in Nairobi Kenya in which over 70 Kenyan civilians have been killed.

After being under detention for 6 months the current President of Puntland Abdiweli Gaas offered him amnesty in July 2015, after traditional elders from Puntland and Somaliland met with the President in Garowe.

Since President Gaas took the office in 2014, he has offered official pardon to several people who were in the jails of Puntland for different purposes.

Up to now, human rights organizations in Somaliland Don’t talk about the arrest of the poet.
