Somalia: 136 AS fighters killed in Lower Shabelle

Mogadishu January 29, 2023 (QJ) – The Federal Government of Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Information, Cabdiraxmaan Alcadaala, provided details on a military operation that resulted in the killing of members of Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region.

Alcadaala stated that 136 Al-Shabaab members were killed and 98 were injured during the multi-day operation in Tawakal and Garasjeereed in Lower Shabelle.

He also mentioned that the operation resulted in the destruction of a large arms cache and the killing of Al-Shabaab high-ranking officials.

The Federal Government has previously reported on multiple operations in the region, which it said have killed Al-Shabaab fighters and leaders, and it continues to carry out similar operations.
