Somali minister meets Burney

MOGADISHU: Somali Minister Ms Lul Abdi Aden called on Ansar Burney Trust International chairman Ansar Burney here, says a press release issued on Tuesday. They discussed women’s rights, specially increase in HIV and AIDS in women, female genital mutilation and other issues.

Burney, also a former human rights minister, is on the visit to Africa where he had held meetings with senior government and NGOs officials in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia. The Somali minister praised efforts of Ansar Burney for human dignity and peace. Burney said female circumcision was the worst kind of women’s rights violations. He also showed concern over the increase in rape, HIV and AIDS patients in African countries.

FC personnel at US consulate killed by own gun

PESHAWAR: A security personnel of Frontier Constabulary deputed here at the US Consulate was reportedly killed by his own gun, the FC sources said. FC personnel Muhammad Sadiq sustained injuries when he pulled the trigger of his gun and was injured seriously. He was taken to the Combined Military Hospital Peshawar, where he succumbed to the injuries. Security officials said they were looking into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

20 Afghan nationals arrested in Taftan

CHAGAI: Around 20 Afghan nationals were arrested under the foreign act near the Pak-Iran border on Tuesday. Levies officials said that they had arrested Afghan nationals who entered in the territory of Pakistan. They were without travelling documents and wanted to go Iran through Pakistan. They were handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after initial investigation.

Two killed in firing

QILA SAIFULLAH: Unknown armed men shot dead two people here at Gawal Haiderzai area on Tuesday. According to the local Levies and hospital officials, the armed men sprayed a vehicle with bullets some 35 kilometers from Qila Saifullah town and fled from the scene. As a result, two people identified as Hussein and Shah Wali died on the spot. Old enmity is stated to be the motive behind the killing. Local levies authorities are investigating the matter.
