Somali Journalist Survives from car explosion, NUSOJ Condemns the attack

Mogadishu The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns the attack on journalist’s car with explosive device attached to the car, near the Waberi police station in Mogadishu on Friday July 25, 2014, in which the journalist survived, after the car exploded, making the second such attack on journalists’ cars in two months, the latest in a string of violence against the media professionals in Somalia.

Unknown assailants attached explosive device to the car of Mohamed Abdullahi Haji, newscaster at the state run radio Mogadishu and SNTV on Friday afternoon around 15:00 Hrs local time, during which the car was parked near the Waberi Police station, but later the car exploded, in what was believed to have been remotely detonated. However, the journalist was not in the car at the time of the explosion.

“When I approached to my car, Luckily I was informed that unknown men were fixing the car, who I did not order.” Mohamed Abdullahi said, “I informed the police immediately, but they detonated the explosive device remotely.”

“Thanks to Allah, there is nothing more I can tell than that I am safe now.” Mr. Abdullahi added.

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemns the attack and calls for urgent investigations into the matter.

“Its yet another unfortunate incident with explosive device attached to the journalist’s car.” Mohamed Ibrahim, NUSOJ Secretary General said, “We call for immediate investigation into the incident and demand the perpetrators to be brought to justice.”

On June 21, 2014, Yusuf Ahmed Abukar (Yusuf Keynan), an Award winning journalist, was killed in Hamarweyn district, when a bomb believed to have been attached to his car exploded.
