Ndola residents have taken to the streets damaging property, particularly those belonging to Somali nations following the shooting of a Zambian in a wage dispute.

Somali nationals are also being targetted for beatings as a sign of revenge.

The riots started early this morning in Northrise forcing Copperbelt riot police to descend on the city to quell the volatile situation. The situation was particularly worse in Masala and Ndeke township where majority of Somalians reside in Ndola.

Reports gathered are that residents of the Copperbelt’s provincial city are angered that a Somali national killed a Zambia when they differed over payment of a salary amounting to K400, 000.

The Somalian, only identified as Omar, shot Holland Kabaso of Chipulukusu compound. Kabaso was a house servant. He had gone to ask for his salary from his employer when the Somalian got angered.

The Somalian who was staying in Zamtel Flats then pulled his gun and shot Kabaso in the head and the victim died on the spot.

Police have arrived to calm down the situation while some of them are removing burning tyres from the main roads of the city that were set on fire as part of the protest.
