Prime Minister Farmajo to Honor Somali Graduates in Ohio
The organizing committee of the annual Somali Graduation and Scholarship Program is pleased to invite all Somalis who graduated from Ohio high schools and colleges to the most prominent Somali event in Ohio celebrating their academic achievement. The Fourth Annual Ohio Somali Graduation Program will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 6:00pm-11:30pm Hilton Columbus at Easton 3900 Chagrin Drive.
The graduation will bring together hundreds of students, parents, professionals and leaders from the state of Ohio and elsewhere. The keynote speaker at the event is Hon. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, former Prime Minister of Somalia. Prominent Somali leaders including Hon. Abdisalan Sheikh Hussein, former Minister for Higher Education, Dr. Abdinur Sheikh Mohamud, former Somali Minister of Education, Dr. Hassan Ali Mire, the first Somali to earn a PhD, and other dignitaries will be present to motivate and celebrate with the graduates.
Invited dignitaries include United States Senator Sherrod Brown, Ohio Senator Charleta Tavares, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman, Columbus Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Good; representatives from the Ohio State University, Ohio University, Columbus State, Denison University, Capital University, Franklin University, Ohio Department of Education, and other county, state and federal officials.
Financial scholarships will be provided to most deserving students who will be selected by a panel consisting of program sponsors. 2013 high school graduates are requested to bring a copy of their final transcript and proof of enrollment in college.
All Somali graduates in Ohio, their parents, and friends are cordially invited to be part of this beautiful celebration of education excellence by the Somali American community.
