PM Hamza Abdi Bare visits NADMA and warns of predicted floods

Mogadishu October 08, 2023 (QJ) -Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, visited the National Disaster Management Authority headquarters to assess the level of preparedness in dealing with flooding and the potential impact of the upcoming rainy season on the country.

During his visit, the Prime Minister received briefings from the leadership and experts of the NADMA, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to mitigate the severe consequences of floods and other disasters that can affect the nation.

“There is a real threat posed by the potential flooding resulting from heavy rains, as evidenced by scientific assessments. This necessitates that we take proactive measures to prevent widespread damage caused by floods and their aftermath,” said Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Bare.

The Prime Minister also issued a stern warning to residents living along riverbanks, urging them to relocate to safer areas as swiftly as possible, as these areas are prone to significant flooding and pose a serious risk to people’s lives and property.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre concluded by urging government agencies involved in disaster response to work closely with NADMA in order to effectively address the challenges posed by looming disasters.
