Parliamentary Defence Committee Warns of Civilians Being Mistreated
In an interview with the BBC Somali Service, the chairman of the Somali parliamentary defence committee stated that the soldiers battling Al-Shabaab in the country’s regions will be dealt with if they complicate the lives of innocent civilians.
Hussein Arab Isse added that the government is determined to increase the quality of people’s lives living in towns liberated from Al-Shabaab than the situation it is in now.
“We want the citizens to learn that the foundation of the government is to represent the people and that we will punish any individual caught disrespecting their rights,” he said.
The Somali National Army and African Union troops are in the middle of their military offensives in the country’s regions controlled by Al-Shabaab as announced by the Somali government earlier this month.
