Omar Faruk Jailed in Addis Ababa for the Second Month, Somali Embassy Confirms

The Councilor of the Somali embassy in Addis Ababa confirmed to Dalsan Radio in an especial interview, that Omar Faruk Osman, the former Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists is detained in Addis baba prison for the second month, after conning Ethiopian companies.

The Federal police of Ethiopia arrested Mr. Osman on 6 November at Bole International International following Hotel Jupiter’s complaint and sought his warrant of arrest of unpaid hotel bills.

“Omar has been accused by Ethiopian companies who owe him money and the embassy is not in a position to defend him.” Councilor at the Somali embassy in Addis, Mr. Abdirashid Sheik Said told Dalsan radio in an inerview. “He has been charged over multiple charges and we will closely monitor over the case.”.

“Since, he was a Somali origin, we were allowed to visit him at the jail.” Mr. Said added.

Faruk fled from Mogadishu after a warrant of arrest was issued by the regional court in the fraudulent use the Somali journalists name, and corruption cases and fled after he was briefly detained in Mogadishu.

Somalia’s National Union of Journalists replaced Omar Faruk Osman on February 2011 over money fraud, mismanagement and corruption which led to the union to file a complaint against him to the regional court of Mogadishu, which later issued his warrant.

He is scheduled to appear in court late this month.
