Morgan, wanted for war crimes, calls on Somaliland to stop raids against Khatumo
NAIROBI—– The notorious war criminal General Mohammed Said Hersi Morgan—a former Somali Army General is the most wanted man as he committed the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Somaliland. Mr. Mohamed Said Hersi Morgan who is in Kenya has Monday called on Somaliland to stop meddling the internal affairs of Khatumo state. He called on Somaliland authority to stop the constant raids in the territories which he claimed under the control of Khatumo militia.
Gen. Morgan who is the son-in-law of former military deceased president of Somalia the late Said Barre made the remarks during an event held in Nairobi by Khatumo leader, a failed Somaliland politician who is desirous to fuel a fire in the eastern regions which are enjoying relative peace and stability. Mr. Morgan went on to say that Somaliland must respect the border of the new administration.
He stated firmly that if Somaliland do not halt its raids against the Khatumo territories that they will defend against them. He added that they will take the army and fight against their aggressors and went on to say that those who give peace that they will provide peace in return. Many have thought that the statement is perceived as a way to cause another hostility and acrimony between the sisters and brothers in Somaliland. Mr. Morgan has stated that war is happening in Sool, Sanaag and Ayn regions.
in 1982. From 1986 to 1988, as a general, he was the military commander of the 26th military district (the region of Somaliland) and in September 1990 he was appointed as minister of defense and substitute head of state.
In 1988, operations conducted by the Barre government against Somali National Movement(SNM) rebels in the northern part of the country led to the death and imprisonment of thousands of Somali civilians by the Somali National Army.
Hersi Morgan was in charge of these operations, and thus became known as the “Butcher of Hargeisa.
Mohammed Said Hersi led the shelling and bombing of Hargeisa in response to the city being taken over by the SNM. The shelling and subsequent battles that took place in the North of Somalia led the deaths of an estimated 50 – 60,000 people.
