Ireland asks the EU to cut economic ties with Israel

Dublin October 29, 2024(QJ-The Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris, has called on the European Union to reassess its relationship with Israel following Israel’s decision to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Speaking to journalists in Dublin, Harris emphasized that the most significant action the EU could take now is to review its trade relations with Israel.

Harris condemned the actions taken by Israel and its parliament as despicable, warning that many people, including children, will suffer and die from hunger as a result. He highlighted that there is no alternative to UNRWA, urging Europe to demonstrate courage in responding to this situation.

Ireland, along with Spain, Belgium, and Slovenia, all of which recognized the statehood of Palestine earlier this year, have been advocating for the EU to take stronger action regarding the ongoing conflict. The Israeli parliament has recently passed two legislative measures to ban UNRWA from operating within Israel and the territories it controls.
